Fasting is a cleansing opportunity for your body. Beginning it with the right attitude can be a great experience.
- Before you start the fast ensure that you have a good meal. Do not engage in a hard to digest meal though.
- A fast should last 12-24 hours. Also the duration of the fast can be in accordance to religious traditions. Anything less is not much of a fast. Anything more without prior preparation and proper guidance could lead to serious physical problems. Keep in mind that your fast should be a good experience, not a dangerous one.
- Fast is an opportunity to step-up your spirituality. The time you spend for eating and other activities should be spent in studying scriptures or other inspirational writings, and meditate on their meaning. Spend your time praying for yourself and for others. It is a great way of enhancing your spirituality.
- Close your fast with a prayer. Close it with a belief that your desire will be granted. Most importantly ask for the grace to accept God’s will in your life. Express gratitude for the opportunity to fast, and for being able to complete it.
- You may tend to feel hungry and weak during the fast. You may even want to quit. Do not grumble. Immediately remind your self the purpose of your fast.
- Discreetly inform close friends and family about your fast. Do this so that they can support you and by not tempting you unknowingly with food.
- Psychologically be prepared about the fast and stay away from food. Or else you may begin to snack unconsciously.
