Breast-Feeding during fasting is an issue of worry for Mothers. Two major concerns which needs to be addressed here are
During Fasting toxins are flushed out of the body. Whatever is in the blood ends up in the milk. This leads to increase of toxins in the mothers’ milk. What amounts of toxins enter the Mother’s milk is unknown .There is no research conducted as yet, which specify’s the amount of toxin released into the mother’s milk during a fast.
However Mother’s who are breast feeding are suggested to go on a Juice fast. This is because during water fasting, the body is dumping toxins at the quickest rate possible. Whereas during juice fasting the rate of toxin released in the milk is reduced. While juice fast also have supplements like mango slices and banana, as this reduces the amount of toxins being released in the milk especially when one has fasted before. This makes breastfeeding safe for the baby.
Now coming to the second concern. During juice fasting the body is not only cleansed but is being flooded with nutrients and living enzymes. A balanced range of nutrients can be got during a juice fast by adding a few tablespoons of essential oils to the vegetable juice mixtures. For a high quality protein, blend a handful of almonds into nut milk. This enables maximum nutrition for the mother and the baby and also ensures minimum toxin release in the milk making breast feeding safe.
