- The liver is the largest glandular organ of the body.It’s color is reddish brown and weighs about 3lbs.
- It is made up of hepatic cells.Collection of hepatic cells make a lobule.
- Thousands of lobules make the liver tissues or capillaries.
- These capillaries are lead to two important blood vessels called the hepatic artery and the portal vein.
- The hepatic artery job is to carry blood rich in oxygen from the heart and the portal vein does the job of carrying blood containing digested food from the small intestine, to the liver. It is here in the liver that the purification of the blood takes place.
What are the functions of the liver?
- Helps in breaking down of the fats.
- Converts glucose to glycogen.
- Produces urea. It is the main substance present in our urine.
- Makes amino acids with which the proteins are made.
- Filters harmful substances like alcohol and toxins from the blood.
- Maintains a proper level of glucose in the blood.
- Produces 80% of the body’s cholesterol.
- Stores vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin K , Vitamin K12 and other minerals.

- Fasting provides much deserved rest to the organ liver.
- It constantly produces vital enzymes and substances for our body and purify blood from all the harmful substances, causing liver burn out.
- Fasting involves burning of the fats in our body to provide energy for the body to carry out its vital metabolic activities.
- In this way fasting enhances the liver’s ability by resting it. The harmful toxins of the body still get excreted by sweat and other means.
