Fasting Procedures

People fast for many purposes, some of which are:

A fast is typically conducted in two cycle programs-a seven-day cycle and a 14-day cycle, and in both cycles, the initial fasting program lasts seven days.

Before you get on to any fasting program, you should first find out the objective of your fast. Ask yourself why you want to fast-is it for spiritual purposes, for guidance, for healing, to resolve old problems or for God’s help in handling a difficult situation?

Next, commit yourself to this fast, by deciding the following:

Now, decide which cycle you would like to get on to:

The Seven-day Cycle: Three days before you actually start fasting, you must prepare your body for fasting. You must take care while fasting, so begin by speaking to your physician, especially if you take prescription medication or have a chronic ailment.

By preparing your body for the drastic fall in food and eating routine, you will make things easier for yourself. So, don’t rush into your fast, instead prepare your body to eat smaller meals, and avoid high-fat and sugary foods. For two days before a fast, eat only raw fruit and vegetables. Once you finish this seven-day cycle, take three days to prepare your body to come back from a state of fasting to a recommended nutritional diet.

14-day Cycle: Before starting this 14-day cycle, you must have your clinical tests conducted. These include a blood test, ionic test and urine test. After you finish the cycle, these tests will be conducted again.

Preparation Period: Two weeks before you begin fasting, stop eating meat, sweets and white bread and limit your intake of dairy products. Instead, drink only warm herb teas, juices and non-carbonated mineral water and do not drink tea, coffee, carbonated beverages and alcohol.

Two Days Prior To Fasting: At this stage, eat only fresh fruit and vegetables, drink vegetable and fruit juices and non-carbonated, low mineralized water. In case of constipation 2 -3 days before starting the fast the participant should eat some salt.

Fasting: For seven days, stick to low mineralized, non-carbonated water vitamin products and herbal teas. Avoid alcohol completely.

As with most things in life, fasting too comes with a well-defined structure and procedure. Here it is for you, are you game for fasting?
