Since our bodies are subjected to the junk food diet of today, obviously too much of it calls for a clean up job. This is called cleansing and involves cleansing the body of impurities, normalize digestion and metabolism and get back your ideal alkaline balance.
If you have an immediate health problem, you might want to do a cleansing job straight off, but if you can wait, it’s better to transition into it slowly so that the impact of cleansing is not too drastic. Once you finish cleansing, you can get on to a purely alkaline diet.
A cleanse is basically a fruit juice fast in which your intake is limited to water. This fast can be as short as three days or as much as 10, but it should be done under medical supervision.
What Cleansing Does: Cleansing eliminates acid wastes and negative microforms from the body, detoxifies your blood, tissues and digestive system. Since you perhaps have been on a rich diet of poorly combined foods, fried and overcooked foods, simple starches and sugars, your body needs to be rid of all the pollution-buildup.
To be cleansed, you should go on a minimum cleanse or liquid diet of two or three-days, and if you can, go up to a maximum of 10 days. If you are hard-pressed for time, a two-day cleanse is ideal. Once you go through the experience, you can do a regular cleanse once a month over a weekend, if only that it gives your body a good rest.
While on cleansing, remember to drink a lot of water-at least, four liters of purified water. You can also include six to 12 eight-ounce glasses of vegetable juice to keep all the toxins at bay and make it more alkaline. Make the juice of these vegetables-cucumber, broccoli, celery, lettuce, wheat grass, parsley, cabbage, spinach, alfalfa sprouts or any other vegetables that you like.
To begin, you can try combining one cucumber, one stalk celery, one-third bunch parsley and a handful of alfalfa sprouts and a few spinach leaves. Put all of them through the blender, add sufficient water and drink at least two glasses a day. Alternatively, you could add carrots or beetroot to tone down the taste because they contain sugar and that can make the taste more palatable.
Limiting Your Diet: Eliminate beans, animal foods and eggs, fatty foods such as oils, butter, nuts, seeds, cheese, milk, and excess starches from your diet. Instead, eat large portions of salads, vegetables steamed with tofu, soups, light grains and yogurt.
You could have a fruit salad and yogurt for breakfast; steamed vegetables and tofu with rice and sprouts for lunch; and soup and a vegetable salad for dinner. For better taste, squeeze lemon juice on the salads and vegetables. During the cleansing period, eat only fruit or vegetables too, for a day or more.
Once you have gone through a cleansing regimen, you will feel much better and not have a craving for food. You will have a distanced and balanced attitude to food and will enjoy raw and natural foods more than refined and cooked foods.
